5 Common Hearing Loss Myths
Hearing loss is a serious issue that affects millions of people all around
Hearing aids are a serious investment, improving the quality of your life and helping you hear once more. When buying hearing aids, there are many things for you to consider. The style of hearing aid and all its technology and features are so important, but your audiologist will help you pick one that's right for you and suits your budget.
Furthermore, you may also hear about a hearing aid warranty when making your purchase. What exactly is this, and what coverage will it give you?
Put simply, it's a safety net that protects you for a specific period. With a warranty, you're usually okay to send your hearing aids back for repairs or problems free of charge.
Unfortunately, we can't provide a comprehensive list of things as it does depend on the manufacturer. Typically, all hearing aids will come with a manufacturer's warranty, but you may also have the option to purchase an extended one on top of this.
Regardless, these are the things that are usually covered:
It's very important that you read the terms and conditions of the hearing aid warranty before you make a purchase. This will explain all the coverage options in more detail, and it will also include any caveats. For example, a lot of warranties only cover you for one replacement product. If you lose your hearing aid, your warranty can replace it. But, if this happens again, your warranty might not cover it.
If you struggle to understand the ins and outs of what is or isn't covered, talk to an audiologist today. They can help you get a firmer grasp of the situation, while also assisting you in finding the best hearing aids with the best warranty.
How Long Do Hearing Aid Warranties Last?
Once more, we can't give a concrete answer as it depends on the hearing aid manufacturer.
With that in mind, we can take an average coverage period based on the different hearing aid manufacturers on the market. Often, you will receive coverage for at least twelve months following your purchase. This seems to be the standard manufacturer's warranty offered for free when you buy hearing aids.
Of course, you can also pay extra for an extended warranty, which can cover you for an extra few year – or more. Buying an extended warranty is completely optional and you don't have to do it. Especially if you have a homeowner’s insurance policy that already covers hearing aids. In this case, you'd basically be paying for protection that already exists!
What Happens When the Warranty Ends?
When your hearing aid warranty ends, you have a couple of options. You could extend it – as mentioned above – or you could leave it. If your homeowner’s insurance doesn't cover hearing aids, you can purchase insurance packages that will cover it, giving you the protection, you need.
We do recommend having some form of protection in place, as you won't be covered if your hearing aid gets damaged, breaks or you lose it. It's worthwhile talking to your audiologist to get tips on how to look after hearing aids, reducing the chances of any problems happening during and outside of the warranty period.
