Hearing Aid Batteries

All hearing aid batteries are not created equal. And the performance of your hearing aids will greatly depend on the quality of battery used.

At Physicians Hearing Center, we’ve been providing comprehensive hearing health care to patients in the Dothan, Alabama community since 1977. Our experience has shown us the importance of using high-quality hearing aid batteries, which is why we carry superior, longer-lasting batteries in our office.

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions regarding hearing aid batteries:

What type of battery is used in hearing aids?

Zinc-air batteries are the most common type of hearing aid batteries used today. They are not rechargeable and must be disposed of after use. They come in five sizes and are color-and-number-coded, simplifying the process or replacement.

Is it difficult to replace the batteries in my hearing aids?

Zinc-air batteries, which are powered by oxygen (instead of mercury, found in batteries in the past) are simple to insert. First, remove the color-coded sticky tab on the back of the battery. (Don’t remove until just prior to use; removal of the tabs will activate the hearing aid batteries.) Wait a moment before closing the battery door, to allow the oxygen to permeate the battery.

How long do hearing aid batteries usually last?

Typically, a hearing aid battery lasts anywhere from 3 to 22 days. The length varies based on a number of factors, including: the type of hearing aid, battery type and capacity, and frequency of use.

Where should I store my hearing aid batteries?

Keep your batteries stored in their original packaging, at room temperature. Excessive heat may shorten their lifespan. Also, remember to keep the batteries away from pets and children.
