Hearing aids are the most commonly prescribed solution for individuals suffering from hearing loss. At Physicians Hearing Center, we provide an array of hearing aids because we understand that not every hearing aid fits every person. After all, a person’s ear, hearing loss and individual needs are just as unique as their fingerprint. Once a diagnostic audiologic evaluation and hearing test have been completed, your audiologist will be able to recommend the best hearing aid choices for your type and degree of hearing loss, budget and lifestyle.
Styles of Hearing Aids
When choosing the right hearing aid for your needs, there are many styles to consider, including:
- Behind the ear (BTE): Which houses a unit that sits behind the ear and connects to a small receiver in the ear.
- Mini BTE: A smaller, more discreet version of the BTE.
- In the ear (ITE): This hearing aid is available in half or full shell and sits in the outer ear bowl.
- In the canal (ITC): These devices sit in the ear canal with a small portion visible for handling.
- Completely in canal (CIC): These are worn in the canal and have a small handle that sticks out for easy removal and insertion.
- Invisible in canal (IIC): The most discreet option, this hearing aid is situated deeper in the canal for an “invisible” appearance.
- Receiver in canal (RIC): Similar to both a BTE and ITC, this hearing aid is sits in the ear and is available in miniature sizing.

Hearing aid batteries are available in five different sizes and can be either disposable (zinc air) or rechargeable.
